The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has launched the Pedernales River Project to protect and conserve this ecologically significant watershed. The project will be modeled after the Blanco River Project. The Pedernales River Project encourages voluntary collaboration among private landowners, community leaders, government agencies, educational institutions, and non-governmental organizations. Its goal is to conserve the biodiversity of this Texas Hill Country resource and natural treasure.
The plan of TNC is to hold two organizational meetings for the Pedernales River Project., one meeting for interested people in the eastern half of the Pedernales watershed and one meeting for interested people in the western half of the watershed. The Eastern Pedernales Watershed meeting was held on August 29, 2006. The Western Pedernales Watershed meeting is slated for October or November, but as of this writing no time or location has been announced.
The first Pedernales River Project planning meeting is to be held in Blanco, Texas, at the Old Blanco County Courthouse on Friday and Saturday, October 27-28, 2006. The Old Blanco Courthouse is located on the square in Blanco, Texas. If you can only attend part of the meeting or only one day, that is OK. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to PRPinfo@pedernalesplace.org or to Dan Snodgrass, Pedernales River Project Director, (830) 868-4830.
